Epoxy floor coatings are famous for their durability against long-term wear and tear. Their hardness and impact resistance makes them the best choice for heavy duty usage such as industrial workplaces, warehouses, and other areas frequently subjected to heavy vehicle traffic. In addition, you would see epoxy coatings used in automotive industry garages and workshops because they are resistant to many industrial chemical products like bleach, grease, and cleaners.
However, surface preparation for epoxy floor coating can be tedious. The coating cannot be applied to contaminated, damaged or unprepared surfaces. The floor must be free of any grease, oils, or solvents. Additionally, this material takes a long time to cure – approximately seven days. Thus, epoxy floors have a significantly slower turnover time than other coatings.
Epoxy floor coating systems are made up of two distinct elements: an epoxy resin and a polyamine hardener. It is not a simple system to use or get right, with multiple steps involved and each step must be done right to achieve longevity of the floor.
Engaging an inexperienced contractor could increase the chances of the homeowner being the victim of poor workmanship, misjudged proportions construction components and lower quality materials being used. That leaves you with shoddy flooring that’s prone to scratches, peeling and wears down sooner over time.
